For manyLeague of Legendsplayers, the learning curve in-game is a journey filled with hardships. But even inSeason 10, the most difficult thing to adjust to isn’t a certain champion or role. As veterans can attest, the hardest thing year after year is dealing with certain members of the community.
Because of its rising reputation and accessibility over the years,League of Legendsis played by over 100 million individuals globally. At the same time, a large part of the community has become well known fortoxic behaviorfar worse than the playerbases of other games. The harassment can get so bad that various streamers, personalities, and even celebrities outside of the game have commented on the issue including professional basketball player Gordon Hayward.

When asked ifLeagueor NBA players were more toxic during a Twitch stream, Hayward immediately statedLeagueplayers were 100,000-percent worse. Furthermore, Hayward exclaimed that he couldn’t imagine playing on an NBA team that displayed the same level of toxicity during a basketball game. He also elaborated that such a group equivalent to theLeague of Legendscommunity would flame teammates over issues like missed 3-pointers, small forward and center position skill differences, and start trash-talking during a timeout.
Despite the fitting comparison, there are several reasons why thistoxicity is only inLeagueand cannot be transferred elsewhere easily. The game takes place entirely online and the vast majority of players will never encounter their flamers or harassed teammates in real life.
