Some things just aren’t meant to be.
Kaitlyn Bristowereflected on Wednesday’s episode of theReality Life with Kate Caseypodcast on the final months of her relationship with her ex-fiancéShawn Booth, whom the formerBachelorettesays she thought was her “person” before they broke up.
“I was madly in love with him,” Bristowe, 35, said of their relationship.
She added, “I thought that was my person, and I would have done anything to try to stay with him.”
TheDancing With the Starschampionand Booth, 33, got engaged during her finale ofThe Bachelorettein 2015. Theysplitthree years later, telling PEOPLE in a statement at the time: “Even though we are parting as a couple, we’re very much committed to remaining friends and we will continue to support each other.”

Bristowe added that although she was so enamored with Booth, she believed he felt pressure to stay together because of the show.
“I think he felt that way. I don’t feel like I did because, I mean, there is definitely a lot of pressure on us,” she said on the podcast. “Through those years it did feel like a lot of pressure, and people were always chiming in and kept talking about your relationship and think they know your relationship. I found that hard to keep up with because people did not know we were struggling on the other side.”
TheOff the Vinepodcast host added, “I think he was kind of like, ‘Everyone thinks we are perfect, let’s try and make it work.’ I was like, ‘Everyone thinks we’re perfect and I do want to try to make it work.’ "

Ultimately, the pair didn’t work out and she found love with Jason Tartick in 2019. Tartick, 32, appeared onBecca Kufrin’s season ofThe Bachelorette.
Bristowe and Tartick’s relationship has only gotten stronger throughout the years and the Mirrorball Trophy winner has been open about expanding their family in the near future.

In an interview withPEOPLEfollowing theDWTSfinale in November, Bristowe said, “I joked that I will want to have babies if I accomplish this and onto the next step.”

She added that her dance partnerArtem Chigvintsevand his fianceeNikki Bella, who welcomed sonMatteoin July, made her anxious to have kids.
