This thrillingStar Warstheory suggests that belovedAndorcharacterLuthen Raelcould return to the franchise, even after his death inAndorseason 2. Luthen had his debut inStar Warsmovies and TV showsinAndorseason 1, but it took very little time for him to become a fan-favorite character.
Although he was a little rough around the edges to say the least, not unlike some of his Rebel counterparts (Saw Gerrera, for one), it was clear that his focus was always on securing the freedom of the galaxy and destroying the Empire, no matter the level of personal sacrifice that required.

In the end, he gave the ultimate sacrifice, as he effectively ended his own life to protect the secrets of the Rebellion. That seemed to be the end of Luthen’s time inStar Wars, butthis exciting new Luthen Rael theory introduces a clear wayStar Warscould revisit Luthen’s story, and it’s absolutely brilliant.
Luthen Was A Key Player In The Rebel Alliance For Years
By the time audiences were introduced to Luthen inAndorseason 1, it was clear that he had long been in the game as a key player within the Rebellion. After all, his gallery alone served as a front for Rebel activity, which was apparent in Luthen’s interactions with Mon Mothma in the show’s first season.
Thus, Luthen had an important role in the galaxy even earlier thanAndorintheStar Warstimeline. This opens up a host of potential stories forStar Warsto explore, as there is clearly so much we haven’t yet seen, but many are suspecting that the franchise might be about to explore one aspect of Luthen’s story in particular.

Specifically, as shared byStar Wars Megon YouTube,it’s possible Luthen Rael knew Cal Kestis, particularly based on when their respective stories are set and their roles throughout the Dark Times. Cal was introduced in the canon video gameStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand returned inStar Wars Jedi: Survivoras one of thesurvivors of Order 66.
The most recent of those two games,Jedi: Survivor, was set in 9 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin), four years beforeAndorseason 1. Because of that timing and Cal’s involvement with the Rebellion—he even met Saw Gerrera—it’s possible that Luthen could have some run-in with Cal. However, there is another story possibility with a different character.

There’s An Obvious Link Between “Axis” & “Fulcrum”
In addition to a potential connection between Luthen Rael and Cal Kestis,Luthen may encounter Ahsoka Tano at some point, based on her own involvement in the Rebellion and, like Cal, the timing of that part she played. Specifically, betweenAndorseasons 1 and 2, we know that Ahsoka was operating as Fulcrum.
While there’s been no confirmation that this meant a connection between Ahsoka and Luthen, it’s easy to imagine that the two would have crossed paths given the similar nature of their roles within the Rebellion. In fact, even their code names reflect a possible link, as Ahsoka went by Fulcrum (something orchestrated by Bail Organa) and Luthen’s alias was Axis.

Fulcrum, essentially meaning the supporting point of a lever, and axis, meaning the line upon which an object rotates, evoke the same idea. Yes, this notion is in some ways inherent in rebel activity, but the similar language does suggest that this was a larger connected network.
Given these factors, the question remains: Could we see Luthen Rael in an upcomingStar Warsshow or game set during the Dark Times?
Could We See Luthen In More Star Wars Stories?
Ultimately, there are myriad factors that would come into play regarding whether Luthen could return, ranging from upcoming opportunities for him to do so to the likelihood that his character really would have made such choices. As highlighted by the same YouTuber,Luthen’s objective was to fly under the radar, which has implications for interacting with Ahsoka or Cal.
Particularly with Cal being a Jedi and Ahsoka being a Force-user (at that time, she did not identify as a Jedi), this would have been a major risk for Luthen to take, which may not be in keeping with his character. However, Cal is already linked to Saw Gerrera, putting Luthen and Cal one step closer to knowing one another.
With regard to Luthen and Cal, this possibility may depend on thetimeline of the upcoming third Jedigame. At present, the title, release date, and timing of the third Jedi game are unknown, although it is officially going to be the final installment in this series of games.
Yet, assuming it takes place further into the Dark Times and therefore closer to or perhaps even concurrent withAndor, this could mean Luthen and Cal crossing paths. In the case of Ahsoka and Luthen, this would require an Ahsoka story set during the Dark Times, given Luthen’s death inAndorseason 2.
There are ways this could happen, such as in flashback duringAhsokaseason 2, which is currently in the works. This feels slightly less likely, however, as it would be a bit odd forStar Warsto introduce a new Ahsoka story outside this show, and a flashback to this period inAhsoka’supcoming season may not fit the story.
Therefore,Luthen Rael’sreturn followingAndorremains very much a possibility, although it remains to be seen whether, when, and howStar Warswould explore this story.
