Showrunner John McNamara’s quote about being “excited to tell a single, serialized story of intrigue and espionage over 10 episodes” did have a whiff of “limited series,” but I am hearing that, in success, thereabsolutelycould be additional seasons of the Paramount+ spinoff.
What This Means For NCIS: Tony & Ziva
NCIS Shows Have Done Well
While this update is hopeful, the viability of theNCISspinoffextending beyond a limited series will almost surelystem down to how much interest they have in viewership. The flagship series has been able to sustain itself for over two decades, boasting nearly 500 episodes. They have also supported several spinoffs, including two still running (NCIS: Origins, andNCIS: Sydney). Even the concluded series, such asNCIS: Los Angeles, have done well, being fairly long-running.
NCIShas never had a spinoff lasting just a single season, which could hint at the show’s longer lifespan. The Tony and Ziva storyline is a long-running and dramatic aspect of the main show, with Ziva seeming to die in season 13. It was not untilNCISseason 16 that it was revealed that she was still alive, but in hiding, and she appeared as a guest star in season 17. As such, it has been several years since viewers have seen this storyline, so they will likely be interested in seeing the character again.
