Not too long ago,Silent Hill2fans discoveredhow to unlock a hidden mini-map functionand the ability to save the game everywhere after nearly seventeen years of the title being on the market, proving that the horror release still has plenty of dedicated players revisiting the 2001 classic. The game has such a committed following, in fact, that a talented team of modders recently decided to take it upon themselves to improve the PC iteration of the sequel with an Enhanced Edition mod.
As evidenced in a demo trailer and explained by the team behindSilent Hill 2Enhanced Edition, the mod project will be an ongoing implementation of enhancement packages that incorporate different visual, audio, and bug improvements for the PC version of the title. Some of the more notable updates include the use of a widescreen camera in-game, higher display resolutions, prominent audio bug removal, better controller support, and more. Those who have yet to play the horror classic should beware, though, as the video below contains plenty of spoilers.
While there’s no doubt that the team behind theSilent Hill 2Enhanced Edition mod are giving players what they have wanted for quite a while, it’s safe to say that most fans would still like to see Konami roll out an official remaster or remake for current generation platforms. After all, the only way to enjoy the improvements from the aforementioned mod is to haveSilent Hill 2’s PC version, which can only be acquired second-hand at this point.
All things considered, not only does the creation of theSilent Hill 2Enhanced Edition mod speak volumes about how the horror franchise’s fans are hungry to play the series' games again with graphical overhauls on the latest hardware, but also it infers that the audience is starving for a new installment, too. However, with Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hillsproject having beencancelled not too long after it began development, there’s no telling when or if Konami will decide to revive the long-dormant franchise.
