Fans just saw Peter Parker’s new superpower for the first time, asSpider-Mantakes his advanced Technarachnid suit for a spin. Marvel is reinventing Spider-Man this year, as the Wall-Crawler pulls on a new sci-fi suit and heads off to space for his own Guardians of the Galaxy-style adventures. However, this isn’t just a new look - Peter is getting a creative new power in the bargain.

The Technarachnid armor is a new mystery inThe Amazing Spider-Man, set to debut in Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr.‘sAmazing Spider-Man #11. Marvel’s preview of the issue sees Spider-Man battle alien zoologist and villain Xanto Starblood, using the Technarachnid suit to shapeshift jagged new limbs that allow him to strike Xanto and launch himself for a jaw-breaking punch.

Marvel’s preview describes the suit as ‘techno-organic,’ essentially confirming that it’s a modified version of the techno-organic virus created by the alien Technarchy. The TO virus is intended to transform biological material into cybernetics, so it makes sense that a modified version of the virus could grow Peter a whole second body. That’s right - there are now two Amazing Spider-Men.

Spider-Man’s Technarachnid Suit Is Turning Him into a Space Hero

But Why Are There Two Peter Parkers?

Wearing this new suit,Spider-Man is heading to spacefor the foreseeable future, gathering a group of alien heroes around him including Rocket Raccoon and new hero Symbie, a diminutive symbiote. However, while Marvel is introducing the Technarachnid suit, Peter willalsocontinue his adventures on Earth as the ‘Resolute Spider-Man.’

After abeating from the villainous Hellgate, Peter is seemingly far less hopeful and more vengeful. It appears as if he’s literally lost a part of his soul or personality, and Marvel is hinting that the ‘new’ Spider-Man isn’t a new hero, but rather another Pete. In a world with magic and alternate dimensions, the explanation could be anything, but Peter Parker projecting his consciousness into a techno-organic body seems the likely answer so far.

Whatever the answer, Spider-Man is gaining a whole new power, as his new suit can morph and shapeshift, allowing him to strike in unexpected ways and offering new ways for Peter to utilize his superhuman agility. In an environment far less characterized by tall buildings and wide open spaces, it’s likely this power will act as a close-quarters equivalent, allowing Spider-Man to zip around ships and spacestations.

The mystery of the space-faring Spider-Man will play out in upcoming issues, as Peter Parker seemingly takes to the stars as a galaxy-exploring rogue. It’s always exciting when an iconic hero gets a redesignthisdistinctive, and fans will be looking forward to the new waysSpider-Manunleashes his shapeshifting on his voyage beyond the stars.
