The creator and game director of the originalSuikodenJRPGs announced on Friday the development of a spiritual successor.Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroesan “ode to the classic Japanese RPG genre from the PlayStation era.“Eiyuden Chroniclewill be launching aKickstarterfor funding July 27 with plans to launch on PC, and potentially PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X, in 2022.
Features inEiyuden Chronicleinclude 2.5 graphics mixing 3D assets with 2D pixel art for the game’s 100+ characters. The story is built around war, much like theearlySuikodengames, with the player recruiting and building an army. Each character is unique in background and purpose, and can be utilized in diverse ways including adventuring, crafting, research, and more. The more recruits, the larger the player’s “fortress town” grows in size and ability.

Combat will be, as expected an inspired take onclassic JRPG turn-based action. Parties will feature up the six members, just like pastSuikodengames, and will have a robust combat system yet to be detailed. One of the new features being added inEiyuden Chronicleis a dynamic camera for combat, which will move with the action depending on the environment.
Eiyuden Chronicleis being made by new studio Rabbit & Bear, which employsSuikodencreator Yoshitaka Murayama, the originalSuikoden’s character designer Junko Kawano,Suikoden Tierkreis' system director Osamu Komuta, andCastlevania: Aria of Sorrowart director Junichi Murakami. The project will also feature musical composition fromWild Armscomposer Michiko Naruke andTales ofcomposer Motoi Sakuraba.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes' Kickstarter launches July 27 seeking $500,000 in funding. The Kickstarter campaign will feature stretch goals for supporting PS5 and Xbox Series X, with consideration for the Switch. A tentative release window of 2022 is planned.
