XDefiant quickly became a popular shooter among those looking for a Call of Duty alternative. It hasn’t really taken any steps towards competitive or esports-centric play, however. Outside ofits own competitive seriesleading up to the game’s release.

The comments by Ubisoft’s CEO are definitely promising if you’re of the latter. In the aforementioned feature, Guillemot was asked what his hopes for the future of XDefiant are. Here is his response:
“Well, outside of it being continually updated, with different experiences and optimized gameplay, I’d love to see it as a serious esport. But really, for a game like this, there’s no limit to its future.

“And we’ve got a fantastic team on it, who are listening to our players and communicating with them, which is so crucial. We’ve started off strong, but there’s still a long way to go, and I’m excited for us to step up to the challenge.”
These days, games don’t really become proper esports titles without full support of the developers. Just look at how Riot Games has handledVALORANTandLeague of Legends, or even Microsoft keeping theHalocompetitive scene alive.

The fact that the Ubisoft CEO thinks XDefiant has started off strong, and wants to see it become a full-fledged esport is a wonderful sign. Anyone who wants to try and go pro at XDefiant, you time may soon be here.
