TheFortniteservers are currently down, leading to many players logging in and seeing an error message. The servers went down around 4 a.m. ET/1.am PTthis morning. In addition to the servers being down, Fortnite is currently in a lot of controversy right now, as developerEpic Games has been suedby the Federal Trade Commission for $126 million. While the servers shouldn’t be down for too much longer, many fans are wondering why the issue is happening at all.

As a live-service title,Fortniteservers often go downfor maintenance, issues, updates, or general instability, just like almost every other live-service game. In a similar vein,Marvel Rivals' servers went down recently toupdate to Season 3and add in Phoenix as a new hero, new Battle Pass content, and a new map. Hopefully, when the servers go back up, the game will have a more stable experience.

Why Fortnite Servers Are “Not Responding” Right Now

Scheduled Maintenance In Progress

According toEpic Games' server status,Fortniteis undergoing scheduled maintenanceright now, which is resulting in an error message for players attempting to log in. The maintenance was scheduled to last just a couple of hours, but as of this writing, the servers are still down. Epic has now provided a status update through theFortniteStatusX account, stating that the game is “extending downtime” while the team works to fix “an issue discovered during offline checks.”

EverythingFortnite, except the website functionality, falls under that umbrella of maintenance. Epic Games' original message reads:“Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. We will provide updates as necessary.“The news of maintenance was announced and scheduled for July 15, so this downtime is not spontaneous, butthe estimated time allotted for maintenance has now gone overby quite a lot.

When To Expect Fortnite Servers To Be Back Up

The Maintenance Is Lasting Longer Than Expected

The scheduled maintenance for thepopular battle royalewas supposed to end at around 6:30 a.m. ET/3:30 PT, but the Epic Games statement leaves it open as to how long the maintenance period will be extended. The post added:“We’ll do our best to get Fortnite servers online ASAP. Keep an eye on this thread for any future updates.”

Fans can keep a check on the maintenance status updates in that X thread, but right now, there is not an estimated time for the servers to come back online. The maintenance was scheduled in preparation for the launch of Version 36.20, but with the servers still down, there’s a possibility of a larger issue. Hopefully, theFortniteservers will be back shortly, and fans can drop back into the Battle Royale action.
